Born March 13 in Torzhok, Tver Province, Russia

1889

Studies at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg evenings to continue his military career

1905

Shows thirty works in the “Munich Kunstsalon” Krause and is represented with six works at the “Salon d'Automne” in Paris

1909

Co-Founder of the “Neue Künstlervereinigung München” Shows nine paintings in the first exhibition of the „Neue Künstervereinigung“

1914

Member of the „Neue Münchener Secession“

1918

Moves to Ascona, Italy, where he develops his „Abstrakte Köpfe”

1930

Obtains German citizenship

1933

The Nazi Party bans Jawlensky from exhibiting

1937

Many paintings are seized from German museums and are are defamed as “degenerate“

1938

His poor health status forces him to abandon painting completely

1941

Alexej von Jawelensky dies March 14 in Wiesbaden and is buried in a Russian Orthodox Cemetery
