The work "Sophie" was created by the artist exclusively for the kestnergesellschaft. In this work, Imi Knoebel referred to the history of the house and created a tribute to Sophie Küppers-Lissitzky, the wife of the founding director of the kestnergesellschaft Paul-Eich Küppers, whose second marriage was to the artist El Lissitzky
