Started an apprenticeship in an inlay workshop at the age of fifteen

1906
Attended the Stuttgart School of Art and Crafts for one semester. Received a scholarship for the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts and made Willi Baumeister’s and Otto Meyer-Amden’s acquaintance

1911
Move to Berlin to work independently

1913
Return to Stuttgart. Became master-disciple of Adolf Hölzel

1914
Commission for 12 mural paintings at the main hall of the “Werkbundsausstellung” in Cologne in conjunction with Baumeister and Hermann Stenner. Walter Gropius took first notice of Schlemmer.

Exhibition at the Berlin-based gallery “Der Sturm” in conjunction with Baumeister. Marriage to Helena Tutein
