Otto Piene´s pioneering amalgamation of art, science and technology have made him one of the most influential personalities of post-war art. Through founding the artists' group ZERO in 1958 with Heinz Mack and Günther Uecker, Piene proclaimed a new era in Western art. His eclectic ouevre includes painting, drawings, reliefs, kinetic installations, partitizipative performances and environments that focus on the concepts of light, dynamics, and movement. With his fire, smoke and light works, he has been a permanent representative at documenta and the Venice bienniale since 1959.
